Match Report - vs Eagles HC Ladies

Last week we played our final game of the 9 a-side league. This was a postponed game however made no difference to the outcome of the league as we had already claimed the title.

Coach Zammit decided to give plenty of game time to our more novice players to keep building their experience & knowledge for the game. We started the match fairly well putting Eagles quickly under pressure. We created plenty of chances but found ourselves unable to convert. With 5 minutes remaining, Louise Flower came off the bench and combined well upfront with Kayleigh Sanchez scoring a brilliant goal & taking us to 1-0 at halftime.

Playing on a weekday was a completely different setting to what the team is used to. Unfortunately due to poor lighting, the pitch was getting dark making it hard for both teams to have better vision & clarity on the pitch. The second half started & our coach continued to rotate players regularly to ensure we kept up with the tempo. Seeing the progress on the pitch from people like Anna, Tina and Gabby were second to none! We are extremely proud of them. Eagles came out stronger ensuring our defence & keeper was always on their toes. Our defense continued to be solid under the direction of Gayle who has enjoyed a wonderful 9 a-side league being consistent throughout. The match ended 1-0 to Europa, maintaining our undefeated run in the whole season.

The woman of the match was voted to Emma Flower who had an outstanding game!

Carlos Buhagiar, Gibraltar Hockey Chairman, presented the trophy to our Captain Dana Garcia. Well done Europa. We now take a short break over Christmas and look forward to coming back stronger after the New Year.

Happy Christmas everyone. Stay safe & most importantly, ENJOY! 🎄💚
