Match Report - vs Titans HC

This game went very much as planned. In the first half, the team enjoyed plenty of possession and created plenty of chances. Our wingers Louise and Emma Flower followed by Nadya Riley and Gabriella Gracia offered width stretching their defence and allowing us to penetrate well into threatening positions. Although the opportunities kept on coming, Titans sat deep and credit to them played hard to beat.

Eventually, we felt we had pinned them back, we sensed they were becoming more vulnerable and that is when on form Kayleigh Sanchez who just needs half a chance broke the deadlock through a wonderful worked goal. That took us to the break. The instructions at halftime were clear. ‘Keep doing the right things, be patient, enjoy the game and the goals will come’.

We started the second half well, again seeing a lot of the ball, and playing with real purpose. We enjoyed high transfers through Lorena Garcia, Ashley Garcia and Gayle Langtry and playing in and out the pockets allowing Dana Garcia and Eva Silva to control the game well and create chances. All this together with the movement from our forwards Tina Rodriguez, Anna De Torres and the Kayleigh Sanchez was too much for the Titans defence to handle.

The threat from Louise, Emma and Nadya on the wing persisted and Gabriela’s hold up play was allowing other offensive players to get into key areas and threatening positions. It did not take long before our own technician, Eva Silva after some great link up play, slotted our second goal home. Titan’s shoulders dropped slightly and we took advantage of that, Captain Dana Garcia who cannot seem to avoid the scoresheet lately scored yet another great goal. The consistent Emma Flower scored a beautiful fourth goal after having been a nuisance to Titans defence all morning.

The team by then had rotated well keeping players fresh, allowing players to develop and enjoy the occasion. Louise Flower who has been training ever so well this season was instrumental again, constantly taking on defenders, finding the right passes and very importantly and to the coaches delight defending tirelessly, what an immense performance.

4 – 0 was a fair and good result by this point but our coach reminded us to keep the concentration and work hard not to concede. Titans could always carry a threat through their influential players Alex Casciaro and Shania Consigliero but again Gayle, Ashley and Lorena together with our charismatic Goal Keeper Aroa Nuñez had every situation under control. Lorena and Gayle transmitted calmness to the team and kept a cool head at all times, what players!

After Tina and Anna had worked their socks off and rattled the Titans defence the coaches, decided to play Ashley upfront for the last two minutes. Why? Well because the coaches had a gut feeling, it paid off! Eva Silva found Ashley unmarked in the circle and as cool as you like put the ball round their keeper and into the net to seal a convincing 5 -0 victory. Ashley simply couldn’t do anything wrong on the day. Goalkeeper, Aroa Nuñez, not only made important interventions but also was instrumental in keeping the defence organised and keeping our sixth clean sheet in six games.

Voted by our players the women of the match went to Ashley Garcia.

Well done team!
